This is one of my favourite Spirit People.
I find them very rewarding to make as I think about people's qualities and personalities when I design them. They each have their own personality.
Have a look on the Products page to see some more that I have recently made.
Comments would be very welcome!

Dyes on paper

I hate waste - especially when it is my fault. Making up too much dye in one of those irritating things. I can't bear to throw it away, so I decided to try using it on paper- and it works a treat. Lots of lovely vibrant colour.
Just before it was dry I added a spray of water and it left areas where the dye moved away from the water.

Basket pieces

Found some interesting bits in my odds and ends basket and have added another layer to the painted wallpaper.

Torn crepe paper looks good - I've decided to add this texture

Dyed silk twill, crushed and then ironed on to iron on vilene to give texture. Then wool tops and synthetic organza embellished on to create a 3D feel

Wallpaper, new layer

Layer 2 went on over the weekend. Working on a larger scale than I normally do adds a sense of freedom - especially when you are using paper that is inexpensive but still robust.
The experiments with the overlocker are intended as another layer, but I'm also going to raid my baskets of odds and ends. I hate throwing anything away.

Wallpaper art

Layer one went on the gessoed wallpaper last night so it was dry to work on today.
First of all I added some more acrylic paint - this time using my artist quality paint - far too expensive to use as the first layer. While that layer was drying I experimented with my overlocker. Now I can thread it easily (well almost!) I am enjoying finding out about its capabilities for creative work.

At the water meadow

I took my camera for a walk with Inca. The water meadow is aptly named after all this rain. Still it looks lovely and green and there are lots of flowers either already out, or in bud. Below are my favourite photos of today - I'm looking forward to painting on my gessoed wallpaper.

Upsizing

On Thursday I bought 5 litres of gesso - so much cheaper than buying 1 litre at a time.It sat there in my special place for new things and looked at me, daring me to open it. I've been wanting to paint something big for a while, so this was my opportunity. Out came the wallpaper lining paper and on went the gesso. Two large pieces are drying ready to paint with colour tomorrow. An image here would be a waste - everything is white.

Book Fair

Today I visited a book fair being held at the Forum. Brilliant! Great inspiration, and so nice to talk to such an interesting bunch of people. I was sorely tempted by a couple of books, especially a small book of photos; a collection of rust images. The colours were amazing.
No images I'm afraid.

Sunny afternoon

In the end I didn't have to brave the weather - it turned out lovely and sunny. Inca sat outside with me and sunned herself while I got active with watercolours. I also used a Uni Jetsream pen together with Inktense pencils.
The photo on the left I have added because it illustrates that sometimes you have to look through to see what lies beyond.
The borage flowers below are tiny but oh so vibrant. Next stage? Translate into textiles?

These images are also ones I took this morning. Although not great images in themselves there is plenty of interest in them for sketchbook work. I have decided to brave the weather, take my paints outside and be inspired.

Throughout my life I have been drawn to textiles and all things 'arty crafty'. Having studied machine knitting and creative textiles on various courses, the time came to go public.
This is what I love and become absorbed in - a great tonic.
