Yesterday I went to an Embroiderer's Guild meeting in Norwich. The guest speaker was Annette Morgan. There were plenty of images of her work and inspiration, together with quilts she had made. It is great to see other people's work and I came home freshly inspired. The talk was about applique - but just about anything was used, including emulsion paint. One quilt she had made from three that she had thrown away and then rescued - she cut them up, put then together again mixing quilts and then painted them.So.........I went through my bin, picked all the bits out and first of all embellished fragments onto some dyed muslin. Using my new overlocker I cut and stitched, added pintucks and then began to add all sorts of bits and bobs that I had made, but didn't know what to do with. The finished piece is shown below. It was a very liberating experience, because it didn't matter how it turned out - it was all to do with letting go and playing. I love the result, it has a lot of texture and the colours blend well, partly due to the hand dyeing and embellishing.
